Setting up a Phone Number
Set up a phone number for your NovaVoice voice agent using NovaVoice numbers or your own Twilio account.
Setting up Telephony
NovaVoice offers two ways to get a phone number:
- NovaVoice Numbers (Recommended) - First number is free
- Bring Your Own Twilio - Use your existing Twilio account
Option 1: NovaVoice Numbers
Your first NovaVoice number is completely free! Choose your country:
US Numbers (Quick Setup)
- Go to Phone Numbers → Add Phone Number
- Select NovaVoice → United States
- Enter a label (e.g., "Main Office")
- Select area code (optional)
- Click Add Phone Number
Your US number will be ready immediately.
UK Numbers (Requires Regulatory Bundle)
UK numbers need regulatory compliance. You'll create a bundle with your business information:
- Go to Phone Numbers → Add Phone Number
- Select NovaVoice → United Kingdom
- Select Create new bundle
- Add new address - Enter your business address
- Create new end-user - Enter:
- Company Registration Number
- Business website
- Authorized Representative details (name, phone, email)
- Click Create & Submit Bundle
Note: UK regulatory approval takes 1-3 business days. You'll receive an email when approved.
After bundle approval:
- Return to Phone Numbers → Add Phone Number
- Select NovaVoice → United Kingdom
- Select Use existing bundle (your approved bundle)
- Enter a label and select your voice agent
- Click Add Phone Number
Option 2: Bring Your Own Twilio Account
If you prefer to use your existing Twilio account, follow these steps:
Step 1: Create a Twilio Account (if needed)
- Visit Twilio's website and click "Start for free"
- Fill in your account details
- Verify your email address
- Verify your phone number to activate your account
Step 2: Get a Phone Number
Option A: Trial Number (Free)
- In the Twilio Console, click "Get a Trial Number"
- Choose a number from the available options
- Confirm your selection
Option B: Paid Number
- In the Twilio Console, go to Phone Numbers → Buy a Number
- Search for available numbers in your desired area code
- Select a number that supports Voice
- Complete the purchase
Note: Trial numbers are free but have limitations. For production use, consider purchasing a dedicated number.
If you use a paid number, we recommend enabling auto-recharge (under Admin → Account Billing → Enable Auto-Recharge) so your agent stays online without interruption.
Step 3: Retrieve Your Credentials
- In the Twilio Console, navigate to Account Info
- Copy your Account SID (starts with "AC...")
- Copy your Auth Token (you may need to click "Show" to reveal it)
- Keep these credentials safe - you'll need them for NovaVoice
Step 4: Connect to NovaVoice
- In your NovaVoice dashboard, go to the Phone Numbers section
- Click "Add Phone Number"
- Select Twilio as your provider
- Enter a label for the phone number
- Enter your Twilio credentials:
- Twilio Account SID
- Twilio Auth Token
- Enter the phone number and extension
- Optional: Select the voice agent you want to connect the number to
- Click Add Phone Number to connect your number
You're Ready! 🎉
Your phone number is now connected to NovaVoice. Continue with the Quick Setup Guide to finish creating and publishing your voice agent.
Troubleshooting
US Numbers
- Area Code: Try "Any area code" if your preferred one isn't available
UK Numbers
- Bundle Info: Ensure all business details are complete and accurate
- Approval Time: UK bundles take 1-3 business days for regulatory approval
- Company Registration Number: Verify your registration number is correct
Twilio Account
- Credentials: Double-check your Account SID and Auth Token
- Voice Support: Ensure your number supports Voice capabilities
- Account Status: Verify your Twilio account is active and funded
General
- Voice Agent: Make sure you've assigned a voice agent to your number
- Browser: Try refreshing the page or clearing your cache
